Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Launches Awam Pakistan Party

Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has officially launched a new political party named the “Awam Pakistan Party” (APP). The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has registered this party, increasing the total number of registered political parties in the country to 168.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, once a prominent figure in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), formed his party after developing differences with the PML-N leadership. These differences arose when Nawaz Sharif, the leader of PML-N, chose to stay in London instead of facing corruption cases in Pakistan. Abbasi, who served as Prime Minister from August 2017 to May 2018, felt that the party’s direction no longer aligned with his vision.

The Awam Pakistan Party aims to provide equal economic opportunities to all Pakistanis and to change the governance system so that the masses are the core source of decision-making. The party’s slogan is “Badlain ge Nizam” (Change the System), and its flag features blue and green colors.

Miftah Ismail, a former finance minister and another prominent figure who left PML-N, has joined Abbasi in this new venture. He serves as the General Secretary of the party. The party has already held intra-party elections, with Abbasi elected as the convener and Ismail as the General Secretary.

Several political figures have joined the Awam Pakistan Party, including Chaudhary Inam Zafar, a prominent landowner and head of the influential Chaudhary family, who ended his 40-year association with PML-N.
