Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has reported a major oil and gas discovery in the Sujawal district of Sindh. The discovery was made at the Pateji X-1 well in the Shah Bandar Block, which was drilled to a depth of 2,475 meters to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Upper Sands of the Lower Goru Formation.
During the testing process revealed that the well produced 12.4 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas and 196 barrels per day of condensate, with a wellhead flowing pressure of 2,551 psi on a 32/64″ choke.
This discovery is expected to significantly increase hydrocarbon reserves, which will help Pakistan address its energy challenges and lessen its reliance on imported energy.
PPL holds a 63% working interest in the Shah Bandar Block, working alongside joint venture partners Mari Petroleum Company Limited (32%), Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (2.5%), and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (2.5%).
This new discovery is poised to strengthen the country’s energy sector by providing additional hydrocarbon reserves and saving substantial foreign exchange through domestic production.
