Lahore Most Polluted City

Lahore has been ranked as the most polluted city in the world once more, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI).

After a short period of better air quality, the city’s AQI shot up to dangerous levels, reaching 502 early in the morning. Some areas, like Polo Ground Cantt and Sunder Industrial Estate, had even higher AQI readings of 736 and 583.

The AQI measures pollutants like PM2.5, PM10, nitrogen dioxide (NO2), and ozone (O3). Levels above 300 are considered very dangerous and can cause serious health problems.

In response to this serious situation, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced stronger efforts to fight pollution. Over 1,250 vehicles were checked, and 128 that were emitting too much smoke were seized. Trucks carrying construction debris are being closely monitored at key city entry points like Thokar Niaz Beg and Badami Bagh.

The Environmental Protection Agency, along with the police, is cracking down on vehicles and industrial units that emit too much pollution.

The government has also introduced “Green Lockdown Areas” to focus on pollution control measures like wet sweeping and water sprinkling.

The minister urged people to wear masks and cooperate with authorities, stressing that this is a matter of life and death.

The return of hazardous air quality in Lahore shows the ongoing struggle with pollution in the city.

Despite temporary improvements, the city’s air quality remains a major public health concern, needing continuous and coordinated efforts to address the issue.
