External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently spoke in the Rajya Sabha about the importance of maintaining peace and calm in the border areas between India and China.
He emphasized that this is crucial for improving relations between the two countries. Jaishankar announced that India and China would soon discuss ways to reduce tensions and manage activities in these border areas.
He mentioned that India and China have successfully disengaged their troops in eastern Ladakh, including areas like Depsang and Demchok.
Jaishankar outlined three key principles for engaging with China: both sides should respect the Line of Actual Control (LAC), neither side should try to change the status quo unilaterally, and all previous agreements must be honored.
This statement came after the Indian and Chinese militaries completed the disengagement of troops from the last face-off points in eastern Ladakh, ending a four-year military standoff along the LAC.
Jaishankar expressed hope that with the disengagement phase completed, discussions would now focus on resolving remaining issues.
