Pakistan’s Army Chief, General Syed Asim Munir, recently spoke at the Margalla Dialogue 2024 in Islamabad, highlighting Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability at home and abroad. His message was clear: Pakistan is deeply committed to creating a safer and more peaceful world.
General Munir explained that Pakistan has played a key role in maintaining peace, particularly through its contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions.
Over 235,000 Pakistani personnel have participated in these missions, with many making the ultimate sacrifice.
Humanitarian Efforts
He emphasized Pakistan’s humanitarian support, such as sending aid to Gaza and Lebanon, and reiterated the country’s strong stance on the need for an independent Palestinian state.
At home, Pakistan faces serious challenges like terrorism and extremism. To tackle these, the government has implemented the “Azm-e-Istehkam” vision under the National Action Plan.
This includes tightening border security and working to prevent terrorism from spreading across its western borders. General Munir also urged Afghanistan’s interim government to stop its land from being used for terrorist activities.
The General spoke about India’s policies, which he called divisive, especially regarding its treatment of minorities and actions in Kashmir.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the people of Kashmir in their struggle for self-determination under UN resolutions.
On a global level, General Munir pointed out new threats like the spread of fake news and misinformation, which destabilize societies. He stressed the need for better laws to tackle these issues and highlighted the dangers posed by violent non-state actors and state-sponsored terrorism.
The Army Chief also talked about Pakistan’s bright future, mentioning its vast natural resources, agricultural strength, and geographical importance. He believes these factors give Pakistan a unique position to boost regional trade and economic growth.
In a world facing many challenges—like terrorism, climate change, and inequality—General Munir called for unity and cooperation. He emphasized that Pakistan is committed to being a force for peace and stability while staying out of unnecessary global conflicts.
