The Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, has approved a plan to start evening shifts in primary schools. This decision aims to reduce the high dropout rate among students. Many students leave school after primary education because there are not enough middle schools available.
The dropout rate among students is currently 46%. This means nearly half of the students who complete primary school do not continue to middle school.
Evening Shifts: To address this issue, the Chief Minister has directed the education department to start afternoon shifts for middle school classes in primary schools. This will help provide more opportunities for students to continue their education.
School Statistics: There are 36,300 primary schools and only 4,600 middle schools in the province. The large gap between the number of primary and middle schools contributes to the high dropout rate.
Education Reform: The Chief Minister also emphasized the need to strengthen both formal and non-formal education systems. This includes improving access, quality, and governance of schools.
Private Schools: Private schools play a significant role in education, catering to 40% of students. The Chief Minister has approved the creation of inspector positions to ensure proper monitoring and evaluation of private schools.
This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to improve education and ensure that more children continue their studies beyond primary school.
