Former cricketer Basit Ali believes that Pakistan’s top batting star, Babar Azam, will retain his position in the team regardless of his performance in the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Basit pointed out that whether Babar succeeds or fails, his place in the team will remain secure. He mentioned that if Babar performs well, he will be credited for playing for Pakistan, and if he doesn’t, he can claim he was forced to open the innings.
The Champions Trophy is set to commence in Karachi on February 19, with Pakistan taking on New Zealand in the tournament opener. With Saim Ayub ruled out due to injury, there is speculation about who will partner Fakhar Zaman as the opening batsman. National selector Asad Shafiq has indicated that Babar and Saud Shakeel are contenders for the opening spot.
