The Sindh government is accelerating its efforts to launch an electric vehicle (EV) taxi service. Transport Minister Sharjeel Memon chaired a meeting at the Sindh Secretariat, attended by Energy Minister Nasir Shah and other officials. They discussed the operational details, benefits, and affordability of the new service. Passengers will be able to travel up to 200 km for just Rs. 1,800, making the service both cost-effective and eco-friendly.
Memon set a target for the first batch of EV taxis to be operational by February, emphasizing the importance of completing the necessary infrastructure, including charging stations, on time. He and Shah highlighted that the introduction of EV taxis would revolutionize the province’s transportation, offering a sustainable and budget-friendly option.
This initiative aims to create jobs for the youth, promote environmental conservation, and attract investment. The government plans to establish a comprehensive EV ecosystem, including flexible financing options for unemployed youth to access EV taxis through easy installment plans.
The EV taxi service is expected to provide an affordable and environmentally friendly transportation option, benefiting both the economy and the environment
