Lahore is about to make a big move towards eco-friendly transport by launching 27 electric buses this month. The Punjab government is leading this project to modernize public transport and cut down on pollution. These buses, imported from China, are expected to arrive at Karachi Port on January 15, 2025, and will start running in Lahore by January 31, 2025.
This initiative is part of the government’s plan to improve urban transport and reduce the city’s carbon footprint. Each bus costs Rs. 88 million, making the total investment Rs. 2.46 billion. These buses are built to last for 12 years, providing long-term benefits and helping to lower vehicle pollution in Lahore.
The electric buses will first run on two main routes: Canal Road to RA Bazaar via Railway Station, and another route that will be announced soon. These routes are chosen to ensure good connectivity and offer a comfortable travel experience for passengers. The buses will operate during peak hours, serving students, office workers, and other commuters.
Punjab Transport Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javid Qazi and Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan will oversee the arrival and deployment of the buses. There will be an unveiling ceremony before the buses start their services.
